High School Apprentice Competition
High School Emerging Leaders kicked
off with a “Donald Trump” style Apprentice competition
in April 2008.
The sophomore classes from Beachwood and Solon High
Schools, will go head to head to design and implement a program
to get their entire High School “knowing what Cleveland is
all about” by the end of the 2009 School Year.
- Over150 students applied for the competition
(between the two schools). Of these, 20 students were interviewed.
- 10 students were selected (5 from each school)
to establish a business plan to engage their entire High School
on Cleveland and to execute the plan in 2009
- The students participating will be paired with
“emerging leader” mentor thru the entire program,
will meet with 9 city leaders, tour a the facilities of a corporate
business, a nonprofit facility, and a manufacturing company, during
the year.
- Students, and their parents, who were selected,
met May 15, 2008 at Pickwick and Frolic to Kick-off the competition
with the 10,000 Team. Parents participated in a game of Cleveland
trivia.
- Upcoming events before the end of the current
school year include a scavenger hunt through the city of Cleveland
at the end of May 2008.
- Upon completion of the competition, the winning
High School students will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship to their
college.
